Freckled Nightjar (Caprimulgus tristigma)
Freckled Nightjar Caprimulgus tristigma is a nocturnal bird found in rocky areas in southern Africa. In other areas it has found that buildings make acceptable replacements for rocks; this has allowed it to adapt to human habitation. Nightjars all have rictal bristles, the "whiskers" that can be seen in the photo; these feathers are thought to help funnel insects into their huge mouths as they hunt at night.
