Gorilla mama and baby
Gorillas (Gorilla beringei) are the iconic animal of Albertine Rift forests. We visited a well-protected troop in Kahuzi-Biega National Park where the group's reproductive rate has skyrocketed since the end of the Second Congo War in 2003. The experience of being surrounded by over thirty gorillas is indescribable. Photo © Josh Engel / The Field Museum.
